Description

The Tapio's Creatures figurine series brings three Finnish guardians into your home – the Household Spirit, the Sauna Gnome, and the Goblin. These characters have been part of our folklore for generations, and their meaning remains the same: when you take care of your home, sauna, and the nature around you, they will take care of you.

This set includes all 3 characters:
The Household Spirit is the warm-hearted protector of the home and a friend to children and animals. It reminds us of harmony and care and that peace and order create a good home.
The Sauna Gnome is the guardian of the sauna and the keeper of its atmosphere. When treated with respect, he ensures that the sauna is a pleasant place to be – and as a character with a sense of humor, he may occasionally be tempted to play a prank.
The Goblin radiates the magic and power of the wilderness. It reminds us of our connection to nature and how much of an impact nature has on our everyday lives.

The figures are carved from solid pine, and their surface is burned and finished with lacquer. Each figure is unique, as they are made from surplus material from other production. Small differences in color, the rough surface of the wood, and cracks make each figure unique – just like every home and its inhabitants.

Where the idea for Tapio's Creatures came from?

"Many design furniture brands have a decorative item in their collection that acts as a brand ambassador and symbolises the brand's values or presence in general. We decided that we needed one too, but it had to be something Finnish and original and give our customers something surprising, a story and a fun experience."

Designing the Tapio's Creatures

"I met the challenge with enthusiasm, but I couldn't find an idea of what this thing would be, because I had already seen a lot of bird figurines. After a long search, I came up with Finnish elves and gnomes, which were completely unexplored territory from a design point of view. You could make up endless stories about them and they would fit our brand perfectly. The pen went to work right away and we made 3D models of my sketches, which we used to make some prototypes in production."

"The figures are clearly decorative objects, works of art or miniature sculptures - however you want to define them. But they are also objects of use, if you want to experience them as such, either with humour or a little more seriously. The figurines are perfect as gifts, for housewarming or summer cottage visits, or just for yourself. They will find a place on the mantelpiece, on the shelf, on the windowsill, in the sauna and in many other nooks and crannies."

A story behind the Tapio's Creatures

The package comes with a leaflet that tells you a little about the history of the figures, what they meant to the Finnish people of the past, who believed in them and for whom they were an everyday occurrence. There are also instructions for us modern people who have forgotten how to behave around gnomes and elves. If you misbehave, the characters can get into mischief, and the brochure therefore states that we take no responsibility for this.

The figurine series consists of three different characters, Household Spirit, Sauna Gnome and Goblin. We aim to keep this figurine in stock at all times, so delivery is quick. Manufacturing the Tapio's Creatures

We make the figurines made by a Finnish carpentry workshop. They are milled from scrap pine wood using a CNC machine. The finishing touches are done by hand.
