Where the idea for Triple came from?

"I was given the task of designing an affordable lamp for Finnish homes, with good lighting characteristics and no glare. The material had to be acrylic. That was the starting point in its simplicity."

Designing the Triple

"When I started designing, LED lighting had not yet taken off. I set out to build my design around three E27 sockets with low-energy light bulbs. In fact, the shape of the lamp started to build around this Y-shaped body. Although the lamp inevitably became bulky, I made its shapes soft, so that it resembled a light cumulus cloud. The acrylic filters and scatters the light beautifully further enhancing that effect."

"This lamp is one of my oldest products and also one of my most popular. I've been thinking about why and I've come to the conclusion that this similarity of lightness and the beautiful light of cumulus clouds appeals to Finns who spend a lot of time sitting at the dinner table in winter evenings and mornings. Perhaps it reminds them of summer?"

A story behind the Triple

"I once received an angry email from a mother whose 3-year-old son had thrown a fishing rod inside the house and hit the pendant light. The mother was upset when she told me the light had broken and said, 'Why do they make these lamps that can't take anything?' I don't remember what I said. Fortunately, there has been other feedback over the years."

Manufacturing the Triple

The pendant light is made by a Finnish manufacturer. The acrylic parts and accessory components are serially made by machine, but the assembly is done by hand.
