"The popular designer sofa bed returns to its roots in a limited edition special version. Marimekko made us a small batch of upholstery fabric that is not available in Marimekko's own collection. We used the entire batch to upholster the back cushions of the ON2 Wood sofa beds. The sofa beds are numbered. Marimekko's Piirto Unikko is a new interpretation of the Unikko pattern designed by Maija Isola in 1964 to commemorate the anniversary of Unikko." -TA

Description

The ON2 Wood sofa bed in Marimekko Piirto Unikko fabric is Finnish design on many levels, combining timeless design and practicality. This sofa bed is a perfect choice for a living room, guest room or holiday home as it easily converts into a spacious double bed (160 x 200 cm) or two separate beds (2 x 80 x 200 cm) - without complicated mechanisms.

The sofa's frame is made of durable birch plywood, making it long-lasting and easy to move. Marimekko Piirto Unikko fabric is a new interpretation of the Unikko pattern designed by Maija Isola in 1964, created in honour of Unikko's anniversary. Piirto Unikko fabric is printed at Marimekko's Herttoniemi fabric printing house on a vivid surface of 100% natural fiber fabric.

The sofa's removable covers make it easy to maintain, and the upholstery can be renewed or updated if necessary. In addition, mattress protectors are stored in the armrest cushions to protect the sofa's upholstery when guests use the sofa bed.

Where the idea for On2 Wood sofa bed came from?

"The popular ON sofa bed was designed in 2007 and we started with Marimekko fabrics in the back cushions. At that time, the design was quite branded with a certain look. We continued with this concept for ten years, then we renewed the look and went completely monochrome. Now it felt like it was time to experiment with patterned fabrics again. We went back to our roots and started exploring the Marimekko range."

"After exploring a few options, we decided on the new Marimekko Piirto Unikko which has its own printing ink made for us. The pattern, combined with the linen-coloured fabric as a background, suits the back cushions of the sofa bed in a sophisticated way and gives the whole thing a completely new look."

The functionality of the sofa bed is exactly the same as the standard ON2 Wood sofa beds. It works without mechanisms, where the top bed frame is lifted next to the bottom one to form a double bed or, if required, two separate beds. The beds are easily converted back to the sofa position by simply lifting the upper frame on top of the lower frame - and the sofa is ready.

"Since 2007, the sofa bed has been produced by a few different manufacturers and has been updated partly according to customers' wishes. The most notable of these have been the placement of mattress covers inside the armrest cushions, the removable and washable upholstery, the increased seating comfort of the back cushions and the springs on the lower bed frame. From the very beginning, fabric armrests have also been produced. You can also order upholstery and bedding as spare parts. Please contact us if you have any questions!"

Manufacturing the On2 Wood sofa bed

Since 2021, we have been responsible for manufacturing the sofas ourselves. We have them made by our carefully curated contract manufacturer. The method is a combination of serial production and craftsmanship. Machines are needed to make the wooden parts, but the finishing is a collaboration between the human eye and hand. All the upholstery is handmade. To guarantee quality, our manufacturer makes all the bedding in-house. We acquire the upholstery fabric for the back cushions from Marimekko.

Appreciated by professionals

Immediately after its launch in 2007, the sofa bed was chosen as the winner of the Furniture of the Year award. This was decided by the readers of Avotakka magazine, who voted for their favourites. Consumers were fascinated by the completely new, mechanism-free concept of the sofa bed. The design was also something new, something not seen in sofa beds before. They were not used to seeing design in them anyway. Design was not usually seen in them.

Kaunis, mukava ja toimiva

Sohva on minulla kakkosasunnossani, jossa nukun muutaman yön viikossa. Sohvalla pystyy yksin nukkumaan ilman, että sitä täytyy avata. Olen nukkunut siinä parhaat yöunet pitkiin aikoihin!
Sohvalla on myös mukava istua ja löhöillä. Ja onhan tämä markkinoiden kaunein sohva ylipäätään!

Jos jotain kritiikkiä pitää antaa, niin ehkä petareiden laittamisesta päätytyynyihin. Minulla se ei näin jatkuvassa käytössä toimi, vaikka onkin sinänsä hyvä idea. Sohvassa ei myöskään ole vuodevaatelaatikkoa, minkä olen ratkaissut sisustuksessa muulla tavalla.
Sohvaa voin silti lämpimästi suositella.

Vaikea pitää puhtaana

Kaunis ja erittäin käytännöllinen vuodesohva, joka on meillä kovassa käytössä. Verhoilukangas vain ei ole kovin kiitollinen lapsiperheessä. Sohvani on tumman harmaa ja sen pinta on pilalla, vaikka en ole hangannut ja puhdistukseen olen käyttänyt vain vettä. Aiempien kangassohvieni kanssa ei ole koskaan käynyt näin. En siis suosittele lapsi- tai kotielänperheisiin.

Täydellinen valinta mökillemme

Olemme todella tyytyväisiä tähän vuodesohvaan. Sen kaunis yksinkertainen muotoilu tuo tyylikkyyttä ja käytännöllisyys tekee siitä ihanteellisen niin arkeen kuin yövieraita varten. Vuodesohva on myös erittäin mukava istua että nukkua. Suosittelen lämpimästi kaikille, jotka etsivät tyylikästä ja monipuolista suomalaista huonekalua!

Tyylikäs ja helppokäyttöinen

Sohva on livenä yhtä kaunis kuin kuvissa. Arvostan erityisesti sitä, että suunnittelussa on otettu ulkonäön lisäksi toiminnallisuus. Sohva on ollut meillä käytössä jo useita kertoja sänkynä, joten tykkään siitä, että osia on erittäin kevyt nostella, purkaa sängyiksi ja kasata takaisin sohvaksi. On niin paljon parempi, että vuodesohvassa ei ole turhaa mekaniikkaa. Mittasuhteiltaan tosi kaunis sohva istuu täydellisesti meidän yksiöön ja pieneen tilaan.

Kaunis vieras sohva

Silmää miellyttävä muotoilu . Kätevä yösija kahdelle,helppo nostaa vuoteet vaikka eri seinille . Ei turhia mekanismeja.

Vuodesohva

Ostimme vieraita ajatellen On2Wood Hopper 67 vuodesohvan. Tuote on hyvin tehty, kaunis ja käytännöllinen ja lisäksi kotimainen. Istumamukavuus todella hyvä, vuoteena käytön lisäksi. 3 vuotta sitten tyttäremme sai muuttolahjaksi vastaavanlaisen sohvan, joten tiesimme tuotteen mitä mainioimmaksi ! Suosittelen :)

Kivan näköinen sohva

Hyvä istua, tukeva nukkua. Ilo silmälle. Ainut miinus halvan oloiset ja heppoisesti ommellut vetoketjut sivutyynyissä missä vuodesuojat. Mikäli tätä enemmän käyttää niin vetoketju auttamatta ratkeaa kun vuodesuojaa yrittää laittaa takaisin tyynyyn. Samaten harsokankaiset sisuspussit. Tässä hintaluokassa olisin odottanut parempaa laatua.
