Description

The Piena chair is a modern interpretation of the traditional spindle chair. It is designed to bring a new look and comfort to your home. The flexible spindles of the backrest mould to the back of the sitter, providing unique seating comfort. This innovative design has been internationally recognised and the chair has won the prestigious GOOD DESIGN® award.

The chair frame is made of durable solid birch and is available in black or wood colour. The backrest spindles are bound at the top with a natural-shade regenerated leather strap made from 90% recycled natural material. This detail not only adds to the visual appeal of the chair, but also improves seating comfort.

The seat of the Piena chair is ergonomically shaped and its lightweight design makes it easy to move. This chair is perfect for the dining table and other areas where a stylish and comfortable seat is required.

Where the idea for Piena chair came from?

"Spindle back chairs have long been popular as dining chairs in the home. The trend is still going strong, but not many new ones have been made, and there's a reason for that. The original designs have become such a powerful archetype that it's hard for designers to ignore them. I took up the challenge and set out to make a chair that would offer the Finnish people something new in this genre and in interior design."

Designing the Piena chair

"I've always tried to bring a new practicality to my furniture. It's harder to do that with chairs. The problem with spindle back chairs is that they are hard on the back. At first I tried a chair where the spindles were just attached at the bottom and would bend. Then I began to wonder if that was too radical. Then I came up with the idea of connecting them with a leather strap and, on top of that, I got a whole new look."

"The design of the chair is very minimalist, but on the other hand it has its own character. It is also small and light. This makes it a great dining chair for smaller dining rooms or kitchen corners. And why not for larger and more open spaces where weightlessness is required, when you don't want to block the view, for example. Its comfort makes it a chair for long evenings."

Manufacturing the Piena chair

We have the chair made by our contract manufacturer. The method is a combination of serial production and craftsmanship. Machines are needed to make the wooden parts, but the finishing is a collaboration between the human eye and hand. The wood material is carefully chosen to suit the chair.

The chair has been awarded the international GOOD DESIGN award. The jury's attention was drawn to the unique design, which brought new design to this demanding category. In addition, the innovative design enhances sitting ergonomics and improves people's daily lives.

Piena-ruokapöydäntuolit on tarkoitettu sisäkäyttöön, joten niitä ei ole testattu ulkokalusteiden vaatimusten mukaisilla testeillä. Lasitettu parveke antaa kuitenkin jonkin verran suojaa, mutta voimakas ilmankosteuden vaihtelu voi ajan mittaan vaikuttaa massiivipuisiin rakentteisiin. Tuolien liitokset on kuitenkin vahvistettu ruuveilla, jotta ne pysyisivät tukevina pienistä kosteusvaihteluista huolimatta.
Suosittelemme seuraamaan tuolien kuntoa vuodenaikojen vaihtuessa ja olethan yhteydessä, jos jokin herättää huolta. Autamme mielellämme tarpeen tullen!

Näppärä, moderni versio perinteisestä pinnatuolista

Tuoli on siro ja kevyesti siirreltävä. Kivan näköinen. Itselläni osa tuoleista on keittiön aamiaisnurkkauksessa ja osa ruokapöydän (Front desk) ääressä ruokailutilassa, johon myös keittiön tuolit voi siirtää tarvittaessa.

Tuolin selkänojs myötäilee kivasti selkää, joustaa ja hieman hierookin. Hyvä istua, mutta pitkälle, isommalle ihmiselle istuinosa saattaa olla pienen oloinen.
