The Piena chair brings the traditional spindle chair into the modern age, combining minimalist design, ergonomics and high-quality natural materials. The flexible spindles of its backrest follow the back of the sitter, enhancing seating comfort and making it a long-lasting favourite at the dining table.
The chair's frame is made of durable solid birch, with a clear lacquer finish that enhances the beauty of the material and makes it a timeless choice for any interior. The backrest spindles are bound at the top with a natural-shade regenerated leather strap made from recycled surplus leather, a detail that gives the chair both unique elegance and durability.

Care and maintenance
Regular maintenance:
Wipe the wooden parts with a dry or slightly damp cloth as required.
Stain removal:
Remove stains immediately with a clean, dry or damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaning products.
Colour changes:
Wooden parts may darken over time due to exposure to light.
Other points to note:
The leather strap can be treated with leather care products. However, always test the product on a non-visible area first to ensure that it does not react unexpectedly with the leather. The leather strap can be removed from the spindles by unscrewing the small fixing screws

Stock items are usually delivered in Finland within 5-12 working days after ordering. For other countries, the delivery time is usually 2-4 weeks. The exact delivery time depends on the delivery address and any additional services. Some products are shipped directly from the manufacturer, which may affect the delivery time. If you order several different products, they may arrive as separate shipments.
We aim to keep the delivery times on our product pages up to date, but we reserve the right to make changes. If you wish, you can ask our customer service for more precise delivery times.
Delivery options
Finland Small items are delivered to the nearest pick-up point (Posti, Postnord or Matkahuolto) or home delivery, according to your choice. Larger furniture is always delivered to your front door, which means your front door or, for apartment buildings, the front door of the building. Depending on your postcode area, you can choose additional services such as carried-in and unpacking.
Other countries All products are delivered to the home yard (the front door of your home or the front door of an apartment building).
Receiving the delivery Always check the condition of the product and the package when you receive it and make sure that you receive the product and the package in good condition. Any damage in transit should be reported to us immediately by e-mail. Please include photos of the damage. If the shipment is delivered by home delivery, ask the delivery service representative to note down any visible damage.
Return conditions You have the right to return your purchase within 14 days of receiving it. We will refund the payment for a faultless and unused product within 14 days of receiving the returned product.
Please note that the cost of returning a non-defective product will be charged to the customer. The product to be returned must be in its original packaging and in perfect condition to be sold. The packaging may be opened for inspection, but we will not be liable for any damage caused by careless opening of the packaging.

Reklamations If there is a fault in the product, please contact us immediately by email. Please include photos clearly showing the defect and the product as a whole. Our priority is to correct the defect or provide a spare part. If the defect cannot be repaired, we will replace the product with a new one.

Where the idea for Piena chair came from?
"Spindle back chairs have long been popular as dining chairs in the home. The trend is still going strong, but not many new ones have been made, and there's a reason for that. The original designs have become such a powerful archetype that it's hard for designers to ignore them. I took up the challenge and set out to make a chair that would offer the Finnish people something new in this genre and in interior design."

Designing the Piena chair
"I've always tried to bring a new practicality to my furniture. It's harder to do that with chairs. The problem with spindle back chairs is that they are hard on the back. At first I tried a chair where the spindles were just attached at the bottom and would bend. Then I began to wonder if that was too radical. Then I came up with the idea of connecting them with a leather strap and, on top of that, I got a whole new look."

Manufacturing the Piena chair
We have the chair made by our contract manufacturer. The method is a combination of serial production and craftsmanship. Machines are needed to make the wooden parts, but the finishing is a collaboration between the human eye and hand. The wood material is carefully chosen to suit the chair.
The chair has been awarded the international GOOD DESIGN award. The jury's attention was drawn to the unique design, which brought new design to this demanding category. In addition, the innovative design enhances sitting ergonomics and improves people's daily lives.
The GOOD DESIGN Award is the world's oldest and most prestigious design award, founded in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. The purpose is to find and reward the best design from around the world every year. This coveted prize is awarded annually by an international jury appointed by the museum, which selects the award-winning products from among thousands of designers and brands in different product categories.
Every year, the museum prints a book and organizes an exhibition of the award-winning products.
