Where the idea for Renki coffee tables came from?

"We needed coffee tables to complement the sofas in our collection. The kind that would go with them and have a bit of functionality and a story to tell. That was the starting point for Tapio."

Designing the Renki coffee tables

"I was thinking of the old nesting tables, which were practical multifunctional pieces of furniture for different situations. They were nested to save space when you were using them yourself, and spread out as side tables for coffee cups when you had guests. So I set out to make a modern, nesting table. The coffee table was a natural fit with the Renki collection, from which I borrowed the details. Another plus is that the Renki collection is made from scraps of our sofa beds."

The Day&Night sofa bed features oak details, and since the coffee tables are made of the same material, they create a harmonious look in the interior."

"The popularity of these coffee tables has taken us by surprise. Perhaps the market was missing such a simple concept with a bit of versatility. The material is thick and sturdy solid oak, which is perhaps also uncommon these days. As the coffee table is made from scraps from our sofa beds, the product has a very small carbon footprint. Maybe that also has an influence on the decisions."

Manufacturing the Renki coffee tables

The coffee tables are made by our trusted contract manufacturer in Estonia. The method is a combination of serial production and craftsmanship. Machines are needed to make the wooden parts, but the finishing requires the human touch. The wood material is carefully chosen to suit this coffee table.

Kiva keksintö kahdesta yhteen pelaavasta matalasta "kahvipöydästä". Helposti muunneltavissa ja erotettavissa tarvittaessa toisistaan sekä riittävän tukevia, eivätkä rimpuloita vaan kunnon puuta. Tulivat mökille odottamaan uuta sohvaa ja nojatuoleja; uudet kalusteet korvaavat valokuvassa näkyvät kaksi vanhaa sohvaa.
