Description

The Piena lounge chair is a modern interpretation of the traditional spindle chair, designed especially for those who value both aesthetics and comfort. Its lightweight design is perfectly suited to small spaces and brings a sense of lightness and elegance to the interior.

The flexible spindles of the backrest follow the shape of the sitter's back, providing unique seating comfort. The vertical spindles are bound at the top with a natural coloured leather band, made from regenerated leather from surplus leather production.

The frame of the lounge chair is made of solid birch with a black lacquer finish, providing a modern contrast to the traditional design. A birch colour option is also available.

Piena lounge chair is designed to stand the test of time and use, making it an excellent choice for both modern and traditional interiors.

Where the idea for Piena easy chair came from?

"The Piena dining chair was the first to see the light of day, and the design proved its worth. Soon the idea came up to extend the collection and make a lounge chair with the same concept. The new lounge chair would continue the same design language and incorporate the same features. We threw a ball to Tapio and pretty soon he kicked it back."

Designing the Piena easy chair

"Designing this chair was quite easy in a way, because the structure had already been tested on a dining chair, so I didn't have to start from scratch. In the end it was just a matter of giving it the right shape and scale. My aim was to make a comfortable lounge chair for a tight space, for which there's not much on offer. Scale and fit were explored with a few prototypes and found surprisingly quickly."

"The lounge chair is surprisingly comfortable to sit in, even though it has no cushioning. The sitting angle is good and it is easy to find a comfortable position straight away. The spindles are flexible and adapt to the back, just like in the dining chair. It is clearly a lounge chair for a room that would not normally fit or be furnished with a lounge chair. Because of its lightness and scale, the Piena has earned its place in these spaces, but it is also suitable for more open spaces."

Manufacturing the Piena easy chair

We have the lounge chair made by our contract manufacturer. The method is a combination of serial production and craftsmanship. Machines are needed to make the wooden parts, but the finishing is a collaboration between the human eye and hand. The wood material is carefully chosen to suit this chair.

The lounge chair has been awarded two international design awards. The jury was impressed by the chair's unique appearance and its light, space-saving design. A new design innovation that improves the ergonomics of sitting was also a key factor.
