The ON2 Wood sofa bed is designed for life. Its simple and timeless design makes it the perfect partner for a variety of spaces and needs - in the living room, the guest room or even the cottage.

This sofa bed is not only beautiful to look at, but also practical. Without any complicated mechanisms, it instantly converts into a spacious double bed (160 x 200 cm) or two single beds (2 x 80 x 200 cm). The overlapping frames make the sofa easy to use and the lightness of the sofa makes it easy to move.

The frame is made of durable birch plywood and the removable covers allow easy cleaning. The zippered covers on the back and arm cushions can be easily removed for washing or maintenance, prolonging the life of the product.

Where the idea for On2 Wood sofa bed came from?

"In the mid-2000s there was a clear shortage in the market. All sofa beds were heavy mechanical sofas. They were uncomfortable to sit and/or sleep on and were always double beds. And the guests are not always couples, so there could be some awkward situations when it came to temporary sleeping arrangements. I set out to solve this problem through design."

Designing the On2 Wood sofa bed

"So my aim was to make a sofa bed that was as light as possible, without any mechanisms. During the design phase, I experimented with thin wooden armrests, which gave the bed a light, timeless look and, above all, a mechanism-free structure. The top bed frame rests on the ends of the bottom frame. When lifted into a bed, they act as its legs. At the same time, I also tried thin fabric ends as an alternative. A few protos and the job was done."

The sofa bed can be used in any room just like a normal sofa. The frame has springs, that make it comfortable not only to sleep on, but also to sit on. The frames are also not "too" soft and return to their original shape. This also makes it easy to get up. The sofa bed has found its place in many Finnish homes, from city apartments to holiday homes, as well as in living rooms and guest rooms.

A story behind the On2 Wood sofa bed

"Since 2007, the sofa bed has been produced by a few different manufacturers and has been updated partly according to customers' wishes. The most notable of these have been the placement of mattress covers inside the armrest cushions, the removable and washable upholstery, the increased seating comfort of the back cushions and the springs on the lower bed frame. From the very beginning, fabric armrests have also been produced. You can also order upholstery and bedding as spare parts. Please contact us if you have any questions!"

"You can easily order this sofa bed from our online shop and it will be delivered to your home quickly and free of charge. There are two upholstery options and both are available in three colours. Manufacturing the On2 Wood sofa bed

Since 2021, we have been responsible for manufacturing the sofas ourselves. We have them made by our carefully curated contract manufacturer. The method is a combination of serial production and craftsmanship. Machines are needed to make the wooden parts, but the finishing is a collaboration between the human eye and hand. All the upholstery is handmade. To guarantee quality, our manufacturer makes all the bedding in-house.

Appreciated by professionals

Immediately after its launch in 2007, the sofa bed was chosen as the winner of the Furniture of the Year award. This was decided by the readers of Avotakka magazine, who voted for their favourites. Consumers were fascinated by the completely new, mechanism-free concept of the sofa bed. The design was also something new, something not seen in sofa beds before. They were not used to seeing design in them anyway. Design was not usually seen in them.
