Where the idea for Aski XL coffee table came from?

"Our collection desperately needed a wide and versatile range of coffee tables, side tables and end tables. We wanted to be able to offer fun decorative pieces that were both practical and complemented our larger pieces of furniture."

Designing the Aski XL coffee table

"I started thinking about how we could structure the project to make all the wishes come true. Surprisingly, the basic concept took shape somewhat by accident when I came across a manufacturer who made old-fashioned hat boxes out of thin birch plywood. We started experimenting to see what would be the biggest and tallest box we could make using this technique. Little by little the range took shape and I designed leather handles as a signature for all the products in the range."

"The Aski range is very broad. We can't really say whether they are coffee tables, side tables, end tables or storage tables. Well, maybe they are all of them. In any case, they fit almost anywhere and with almost any furniture. There's also a wide range of colours to choose from, so you'll find options for a variety of interiors. They are also sympathetic decorative elements that can hide their owner's best treasures."

A story behind the Aski XL coffee table

"We had a section at the Habitare design fair, which we called Kimppakämppä. Some guy came up and told us he was our namesake - so his surname was Kimppa. It turned out that they also had a section where they showed their hat boxes made in the traditional Finnish way. We went to see them and I immediately asked if they could start making us something out of those. The journey of the popular Aski range had begun."

"You can easily order this coffee table from our online shop and have it delivered to your home free of charge. The entire Aski range comes in three colour options: birch, black or white. Manufacturing the Aski XL coffee table

The coffee table is made by our contract manufacturer. This is the same manufacturer who has been making traditional Finnish hat boxes in Ostrobothnia since the 1950s. The production is entirely handmade, where straight birch plywood is bent into round boxes.
