An interior architect and a designer based in Lahti Finland, Tapio Anttila (b. 1962) is a versatile freelance designer. Anttila works extensively in fields of object, concept and interior design. He is particularly interested in wood and working it in a modern way, while still honoring traditions. When designing furniture, he focuses on functional pieces for home and public space.
After years as an inhouse designer, in 2005 Anttila established his own business, Tapio Anttila Design. Anttila’s clients include many Finnish companies and also Italian companies i.a. Riva1920. Products designed by Tapio Anttila are available in design stores in Finland and around the world, for instance at MOMA Design Store in New York. Recently he started a new career as co-founder and main designer in the manufacturer company called Nordic Hysteria.
Anttila’s design has recieved several high-profile international design awards, like eight times Good Design Awards for various products, Green Good Desing Award and two times EcoDesign Award for sustainable design. He was also awarded as the Furniture Designer of the Year 2012 by the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo.
